  • Something Borrowed Ketubah $260.00

My exploration of the East European immigrants experience in Mexico City began in a conversation with author Ilan Stavans. This lively encounter inspired my visit to the “Centro Historico” where another unique encounter, this time with Monica Unikel, transported me to the days when the first Jewish immigrants arrived in the city. Monica’s unique Jewish heritage, Mexican birthright and background in history combined into a unique career as tour guide with a concentration Mexico’s Jewish past. The kaleidoscopic sights and sounds of modern metropolis Mexico City is grounded in the archaeological remnants of the Aztec empire, historic structures of the Spanish conquistadors and in the faces of modern Mexican citizens.

Blossoming Jacaranda trees lined the streets of the city upon landing. The spiked light violet flowers of these lovely ornamental shade trees defined my first impressions. Our tour with Monica revealed layers of history and clashes of culture which are majestically rendered in the details of this design. The skills of artisans from native and immigrant groups are all employed in reflecting the tiny but influential contributions of the Jewish immigrants to this Mesoamerican terrain and bless the beloved couple with the gifts of this fascinating place on earth.

  • Sweet Shelter Ketubah $250.00

The third illumination from our “Heritage Ketubah” collection, “Sweet Shelter” honors the Jewish community of Sarajevo, Bosnia, Herzegovina. This composition is based on the artist’s interpretation of an embroidered wall hanging from a Jewish home dating from 19th century Sarajevo. The original embroidery is on display at the Orthodox Synagogue / Museum of historic old town Sarajevo. This romantic composition draws the viewer back in time to when the Jewish community found shelter from the expulsion of 1492. This inspired design evokes romance, reflections of joy, celebration and the “sweet shelter” or marriage for generations to come!

  • Twilight Promise Ketubah $180.00

    Twilight Promise

Celestial energy emanates from this illumination. The delicate rendering of the zenith phase of the moon is embedded in the language of the marriage covenant. As the lunar cycle influences the rhythms of our very lives so the Jewish calendar honors the natural order of our common human experience. Marriage, in this context, represents the hub of our daily efforts. The multifaceted star composition creates the notion that our existence embraces many dimensions, all of which interact and influence our everyday experience. The essence of this ketubah is beautifully expressed in Psalm 89:38. “It shall be established for ever like the moon, and the witness in the sky is sure.”

  • Tzafiyah Ketubah $230.00

The dictionary translation for the Hebrew word Tzafiyah is observation. In the Sefer Yetzirah Tzafiyah is interpreted as a heightened state of awareness out of which enlightenment can be achieved. By cultivating observation we begin to recognize that each moment of our lives is unlike any other. Within the context of a marriage commitment the art of living in a fulfilling partnership incorporates a willingness to delicately refine our Tzafiyah, the practice of observing of our daily pursuits, our patterns of communication, our habits, our minds.

This Ketubah reminds us to practice simple observation in our marriage commitment. This non-judgmental frame of reference allows creative energy to vitalize the day to day familiarity of a lifetime partnership.

It is a 100% rag paper with a 225 gm weight. It is an archival print media which will preserve the original color for over 100 years.

  • Venetian Romance Ketubah $250.00

The first of our “Heritage Ketubah” series “Venetian Romance” transports the betrothed to the romantic canals and streets of Venice Italy. The composition of this regal and buoyant design is inspired by the famous arches of San Marco Piazza. Exquisitely rendered low relief carved ornament, Sienna and Rhodochrosite marble, honor the inspired history of Jewish Italian synagogue art and architecture. The central stained glass panel frieze reflects images of an abundant flowing stream and a majestic barren desert landscape.

All “Heritage Ketubah” designs include a written historical highlight about the Jewish community honored by this ketubah. We hope this effort broadens and enlivens our understanding of the vast legacy of Jewish art and culture throughout history.

  • Wind Song Ketubah $260.00

The health and diversity of our planet depends on the stewardship of our natural resources by all people. The promises of a marriage are cradled within the intricate and delicate web of life upon which we depend for our very existence. Our exhilarating “Wind Song” ketubah expresses a chorus of celebration from the wealth of our ocean’s mysteries to the blessings of sun, rain and the plant kingdom. Your promise is also our promise and with the purchase of our “Wind Song” illuminated ketubah we will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Ocean Conservancy to help preserve the health of our oceans. Our contribution campaigns are our way of thanking you for your patronage and working on behalf of the health of our planet, which we all share.

Woven along the edge of this lyrical design are the words taken from John Muir:  “Here is a calm so deep, grasses cease waving.  Everything in wild nature fits into us, as if truly part and parent to us.  The sun shines not on us but in us.  The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substances of our bodies, making them glide and sing.  The trees wave and the flowers bloom in our bodies as well as our souls.  And every bird song, wind song, and tremendous storm song of the rocks, in the heart of the mountains  is our song, our very own, and sings our love.”
